Cantadas grosseiras

Around 1:30pm this Saturday, I received a message from my friend. She complained that three guys had passed lines on her during the time she was working as a photographer. I, as a good male, asked what was the problem, since her beauty was being recognized. That put us in a brief exchange of messages late into the night, which then advanced to the emails and still go on. Well, we have this habit, it sort of makes part of our friendship, even when we actually lived in the same town.

From my friend arguments and the blog Escreva Lola Escreva, I can summarize that those teasers are based on the idea that the man can do whatever he wants with women, mere objects of use and consumption. Preferably, fast and disposable. This idea can easily turn into aggression, invasions of privacy or of bodies. It was easy for me to think that she was being excessive. Well, I have a dick, so this happens to me almost never. I don't feel endangered or trespassed every time someone says I'm beautiful or that they want to fuck me the whole night. OK, this last one is creepy.

The video above is a commercial that shows what children learn really fast. They learn because we teach. We teach because even if we don't know it, we learnt it. It is time to break this cycle, isn't it?

I first saw this video a few months ago. It let me speechless. Now, a few months later, I decided to write about it and I still can't say a thing. Is this teacher a human being? I'm not sure. But he represents part of the reasons for my desire to be a professor.

Foucault

So, I don't like the way he has written his texts. My friends said that I need to take it easy, since he was a philosopher and a French one, to complete. Well, I insist that to be intelligent you're not obliged to write hermetically. This has nothing to do with the easiness of a subject, with its complexity or deepness. I really think worthy the attempt to share our ideas and thoughts in the best way possible.

Then I read someone who actually had the patience needed to read Foucault. It's amazing! This french philosopher guy had astonishing contributions for the world. But the Ivory Tower guardians will  say: "you must read in the original source". Now say, why?

What one can teach?

I teach English to two classmates. They are PhD students and want to learn it in order to travel abroad. As you can probably notice, my English is not exactly perfect. Anyway, I teach them. How is that possible? Well, to explain that, I need to go back to May, when I was trying to decide if I would do a exam for a teaching position at a Federal University in the northeast of the country. I consulted with several professors, and they all said pretty much the same: "do you think you have something to offer to an undergrad student? If you do, you should try this exam".

That's what I think about teaching English: I know I have something to share and I'm not promessing perfect lessons. They are aware of my limitations and choosed to have me as a guide. This is something I can offer.
